The sparkly vampires are back…

I realize that I’m an almost 37-year-old woman and the fact that I like Twilight is a little, well…ridiculous.  But I just can’t help it.  I loved the books…and even though the movies are a little cheesy, I love those too.  And I’ve been looking forward to Breaking Dawn, Part 2 for a year now.

As I got ready to meet my mom and SIL (we dragged my dad with us too!) at the movies, J followed me around the house teasing me.

J: You know what they should make?  I movie about Harry Potter vs. Twilight.  If that was a thing, who would you root for?
Me: Don’t you have anything else to do?
J: No.  So really…who would you root for…who do you like better?
Me: Please go do something else.
J: You would root for Twilight.  I know you would.  Are you Team Edward or Team Jacob?
Me: You aren’t going to stop until I answer you, are you?
J: Not likely, no.
Me: Fine.  I’m not “team” anyone…but Taylor Lautner annoys me.
J: So Team Edward.  And what’s that other chick’s name…not Bella, the other one?  The Greene chick.
Me: Ashley Greene.
J: No, what’s her vampire name?
Me: Alice.
J: Right…so you have Bella and Edward and Jacob and Alice and then the father…what’s he called again?  Doctor something?
Me: Carlisle.  Why do you know so much about this?
J: I just do.  So there’s Bella and Edward and Jacob and Alice and Carlisle and…Steve?
Me: Nope…no Steve.
J: If Edward went to Hogwarts, which house would be in, do you think?  Humperdink?
Me: There is no Humperdink.
J: Are you going to wear a Team Edward t-shirt?  I think you should.

It went on like this for a while.  By the end of the conversation J had me laughing so hard that I was in tears.  Because it is slightly ridiculous and it is pretty funny.  But, like I said…I can’t help it.  I love this story.

And this movie was, by far, my favorite.  Kristin Stewart actually lost her perpetual bitch face, dirty hair, slouchy shoulders and general creepiness.  Her acting was so good that I almost forgot she’s such an awful and annoying person.  The fight scene…was fantastic.  And the very last scene in the movie was beautiful.  If you are a fan, you won’t be disappointed.

A little bit of everything…

My dad’s accident has hijacked my posting schedule for the past few days.  I had so many things I wanted to talk about and I never got the chance.  So today…I’m going to take a few minutes and talk about things that have nothing to do with hospitals or injuries or illness.

First…Wicked.  Last Tuesday night my mom, Marisa and I went to see Wicked on Broadway.  IT WAS AMAZING!  Seriously.  The costumes were beautiful and the sets were gorgeous and the songs were fantastic.  It was magical in a way that is very difficult to experience as an adult.  I felt like I’d been transported to another world.  The only thing that I was a little sad about is that eight years ago I passed on the opportunity to see the show with Kristen Chenowith and Idina Menzel.  That would have been awesome.  As it was, it was completely wonderful…and if you have a chance to go see the show…take it!

Next…Twilight.  I know some of you think Twilight is the worst crap ever…but I love it.  I have enough reality on a daily basis…and sometimes I need an escape from that reality.  And Twilight is about as far from reality as one can get…the teen angst drama, the romance, the bloodsucking vampires.  I love it.  And Breaking Dawn was my favorite installment so far.  It also came at the perfect time.  Mom and I needed some distraction, so we went to see the sparkly vampires on Saturday night.  It was great.  If you are a fan and you haven’t seen it yet…go, now.  You’ll love it.

Lastly…Occupy Wall Street.  I haven’t really talked about this here, because I don’t want to offend anyone…but several people have asked my opinion recently so I thought I’d share it.  So here’s the thing…I don’t get it.  I have been watching the news and reading about this group for two months now and I still don’t know what it is that they are looking to accomplish…and I wonder if they know themselves.  I understand their anger and frustration, but I don’t see how what they are doing is going to make anything better.  And what they tried to do last Thursday…shutting down the subways and disrupting business on Wall Street itself…was ridiculous.  Because the people who are hurt by things like that aren’t the so-called “1%”…it’s the rest of us who are just trying to go to work and get around the city.  These people aren’t making any friends around the city and should really rethink their message…and their methods.

Ok…now that we’ve covered all of that…let’s move on to my dad.  He’s in surgery right now…they took him in about 8AM.  If all goes well, we expect him out around 2PM.  Then his healing can finally begin…and maybe he’ll get his wish of getting back to work soon.  Fingers crossed!  I know I’ve said this a thousand times…but I can’t say it enough…thank you so much for all the thoughts and prayers.  My dad is overwhelmed at the support he’s been getting and it’s so very appreciated.  You guys are the best!

Pretty, sparkly vampires…

So you guys know how I’m into Twilight, right?  I can’t help it…sparkly vampires, cheesy love stories and teenage angst…Twilight has got it all.  I loved the books and firmly believe that the movies have not done the books justice.  However, that hasn’t stopped me from being there on opening day for either of the previously released movies and I’ve already got tickets for a sneak preview event of Eclipse on the 29th.  Seriously…it’s an EVENT…with raffles and guest appearances and all kinds of fabulous things.  The best part is that it’s all to raise money for charity.  Well, the best part is that I get to see the movie one whole day early…but the charity part is really good too.

I hadn’t given much thought to my wardrobe for this event, but then my sister-in-law reminded me that last year, at the same event, she and her aunt were interviewed on the news.  I realized I’d better got on the wardrobe thing.  Salt is beating me at this because she already had a fabulous shirt selected.  So I went to Cafe Press and started my search. There are literally 900,000 styles to choose from, but I think I’ve got it down to three…

Now I just have to pick one.  Decisions, decisions!  I want my mom to wear one that says “Twilight Cougar” but she refuses.  My SIL is trying to talk her aunt into wearing it.

I’m way too ridiculously excited to see this movie.  I know Salt is with me, but who else is?  I like knowing I’m not the only nut out there!
