Top Five Tuesday…

Last week, J and I watched a show about Lottery winners.  One of the women featured said she always believed she would win so she went about her life as though she already had the money.  She sought the advice of a money manager, she consulted a real estate agent and researched neighborhoods where she might want to live…she made plans as though she was already rich.  Oh…and she wrote $120,000,000 on a piece of paper and slept with it under her pillow.

And she won $120,000,000 in the lottery.  Coincidence?  I think not.  I think this woman is on to something.  So I’ve decided to keep a piece of paper that says $120,000,000 under my pillow while I sleep.  (I was going to go with $500,000,000, but I didn’t want the universe to think I was being greedy!)  I’m going to try to bring some of the money vibes to my house.  I’m also starting to plan what I’m going to do with my money when I win.

So here, I present you with The Top 5 Things I’m Going To Do With My Lottery Winnings…

  1. Pay off the debt…I hate debt, so it’s all getting paid off…the mortgages, the car loan…and anything else we owe.  And then I’m going to pay off some other people’s debts…the mortgages, car loans, student loans and credit cards.  Then we are all going to live happy, debt-free lives.
  2. I’m going to grant some wishes…I love the Make a Wish Foundation.  I think what they do for terminally ill children and their families is amazing.  I have always wanted to be a wish granter, but it’s a time committment that I’ve never been able to make while working a full time job.  Well…a job will no longer be a problem, so I’m going to make being a wish granter my new job.
  3. I’m going to build a compound…I’m going to find a huge piece of property and build a bunch of houses so I can have everyone I love living within walking distance.  And preferably, we’ll be in walking distance to the ocean as well.
  4. I’m going to buy a car…I’ve been coveting a Mercedes G550 since I first saw one about ten years ago.  Of course, I’ll never be able to afford it until I win the lottery.  It’s a huge indulgence…but I think it’s worth it.
  5. I’m going to check into Canyon Ranch…I’m going to the Berkshires and I’m going to get pampered and I’m going to eat gourmet food and I’m going to go on nature hikes and I’m going to relax.  For a month.  At least.

There are other things I’d do as well…but those are my top five.  And they are going to happen…it’s just a matter of time before my optimism pays off.

Now tell me…what would you do if you won the lottery?

Top Five Tuesday…

I was pretty excited about Top Five Tuesday when I first had the idea.  But that was like two months ago and I’ve only done one other Top Five Tuesday post.  Like I said yesterday…I’ve been a major slacker lately.  Well…as of today, it’s back.

As promised, I’m going to tell you about my trip to Kentucky…the land of horses and bourbon.  Actually…I’m going to start telling you about my trip.  There was so much awesome crammed into the weekend that it would be impossible to fit it all into one post.  So today…I give you…

The Top Five Favorite Things That Happened in Kentucky

  1. I got to meet Hutch…easily the most awesome part.  If you’ve been coming here for a while, you are familiar with the Shana/Ally love fest.  Well, Hutch was a fantastic addition to our duo and we made a wonderful threesome.
  2. The horse racing…I’ve been going to horse races with my grandfather since I was a little girl, but I never really appreciated it.  However, taking a trip to Keeneland gave me a whole new appreciation for the sport.  The fact that we had clubhouse tickets and were able to stand right up at the rail to see the horses…and “feel the thunder” was amazing.  Oh…and it didn’t hurt that Hutch made a mortal enemy of one of the jockeys!
  3. I drank moonshine…this was a big deal for me.  You see, I grew up watching The Dukes of Hazzard and I was always intrigued by the moonshine.  Being from NY…we didn’t really have much access to moonshine.  Especially not living in the city…stills are kind of hard to keep on a fire escape.  So when Ally said she’d procured some moonshine for us to try, I was excited.  I would love to tell you that I drank it straight from the jar…in big gulps…but that would be a lie.  I could barely smell straight from the jar.  No…we mixed a tiny amount with a lot of coke…and it was yummy.  It also made my face and ears feel like they were going to burn right off.
  4. We spent the afternoon drinking wine at a vineyard…we sat at a picnic table and shared a bottle of wine and talked about a million things.  I was such a nice, relaxing afternoon…definitely one of my favorite days of the trip.
  5. I was asked to show my ID while buying champagne at Liquor Barn…I’ve been feeling really old lately.  I also wasn’t able to get my hair colored before my trip and all my grays were showing…which made it even worse.  But I felt instantly younger when the guy at Liquor Barn insisted on seeing my ID.  I happily showed it to him and it put me into a great mood for the rest of the day!

Those were some of the highlights.  Come back tomorrow to see the pictures…some of them are scandalous!  Well…one of them is, anyway.

Top Five Tuesday…

Work has been insane this week.   Every question I get an answer to raises two new questions.  Every time a decision gets made and a task is completed, three new tasks spring up.  It’s a short week for me, since I’m going on vacation on Friday…and I feel like I have three weeks worth of work to do in the next three days.  So, as I walked to the office this morning I kept thinking that there were a hundred things that I’d rather be doing today than going to work.

Here are my Top Five Things I’d Rather Do Today…

  1. Lay in bed…when I left the house, J and the dogs were still laying, all snuggled together in bed.  They were nice and warm and cozy.  I, on the other hand, headed out into a day that was dreary and cold and rainy.  The weatherman promised me sun…but so far, no luck.  Bed would definitely be preferable to sitting at my desk…and my pajamas would be preferable to a dress, tights and heels.
  2. Have a day of beauty…my gray hair is seriously out of control.  My eyebrows, likewise.  And I need a mani/pedi like nobody’s business.  I’m about three weeks overdue for all those things…I just haven’t had any time to take care of them.  Nor will I have time to take care of them before I leave for my weekend away.  Thank goodness I’ll have ample opportunity to wear a hat…at least my grays will be covered.
  3. Organize the bathrooms and linen closet…I know that doesn’t sound very exciting, but I’m on a home organization roll.  I started in the kitchen and then moved on to my closet.  The bathrooms and linen closet are next on my list and I’ve been dying to get them done.  I need a good inventory on what toiletries we have and I need to clear space in the linen closet by getting rid of old blankets and towels we don’t use.  I want to keep my momentum up and organizing my house would be much better than being at work.
  4. Go to Barneys…I really want to buy this new perfume that they only carry at Barneys.  It’s two blocks away from my office and, somehow, I never quite seem to make it there.  I’m always busy working…or running to the train.  I really need to move this up on the to-do list.
  5. Read my book…I’m 3/4 of the way through The Year of Living Biblically by AJ Jacobs and I love it.  I can’t wait to finish it and write a post about it.  I just need a couple of hours, curled up on the couch and I’ll be done.  Instead…I’m working.  It’s such a bummer.

So tell me…what are you all doing today?  What would you rather be doing instead?
