Random Musings Friday…

It’s Friday again.  I wasn’t sure I’d still be here this morning.  The weather report for yesterday was something straight out of a horror show and I was convinced that by now I’d be travelling the yellow brick road on my way to Oz.  Luckily, the crazy thunderstorms produced a lot rain in my area, but not much else.  Other places had trees down and lost power and one town upstate even had a tornado.  The worst that happened to me was that I got a little wet on my way into the grocery store.  I’ll take that!

Here’s what else happened this week…

  • I was extremely impressed to see that Christian Bale went to Colorado earlier this week and visited the shooting victims.  I was even more impressed that he did it without notifying the press or having a camera following him.  He didn’t do it for the press or the recognition.  He did it because he felt it was the right thing to do.  I’ve always gotten the impression that Mr. Bale was kind of a douche…but he proved himself to be a real class act.  Well done, sir.
  • Someone else who impressed me this week was Lisa Henson, CEO of The Jim Henson Company.  Upon hearing the news that the CEO of Chick-fil-A came out publicly against gay marriage, Lisa severed the relationship between her company and the chicken restaurant.  She cited her company’s committment to diversity and then she turned around and donated the payment they’d received from Chick-fil-A to GLAAD.  While the CEO of Chick-fil-A is certainly entitled to his opinion on gay marriage, a restaurant chain is not a platform to promote your political agenda.  Chick-fil-A should have focused on selling chicken.
  • Something I’ve been wondering…why is it that when people on the train are listening to music loud enough for me to hear, it’s never music I actually want to hear.  Sometimes J will sit next to me on the train and I will be able to hear his music…but since it’s always music I like, it’s fine.  However, when it’s strangers, it’s always some kind of music that I hate.  Strange.
  • Also…I notice a lot when I read books, the characters often want to “snuggle up on the couch and watch old movies”.  It’s always old movies.  Why is it never new movies?  When J and I have a free night, we sit on the couch (we are not snuggly people) and we watch a movie…usually the newest release.  Last week we watched 21 Jump Street.  Tonight we will watch Safe House.  While I do have some favorite classic movies, when J and I watch movies together we always choose the new releases.  Are we alone in this?
  • I often order lunch from a place near my office called A+ Thai Place.  It occurred to me this week that maybe I should be ordering lunch from a place called A+ Thai Place.  It seems so…casual?  I don’t know…there is something about the name that is bothering me.  Also…my pad Thai this week tasted like vomit.  I think I’m off A+ Thai Place for a while.

That’s it for me.  I’m off to enjoy my weekend.  I hope you all do the same.
