Random Musings Friday…

Happy Friday.  This was an awfully long week, considering it was only 4 days…actually, it’s probably because it was only 4 days.  I have a little surprise for you, but first…my random musings…

  • Last night when I was walking through the subway station I encountered a roach.  Not unusual in the subway…there are rats there too.  But this was easily the biggest roach I’ve ever seen in my life and the freaking thing was just booking through the station.  People were literally getting out of its way.  Of course, the sucker was heading right for me.  I had to jump out of its path to make sure it didn’t crawl on my foot.  It was so nasty and made me so happy that I don’t live in the city.
  • When the deli screws up my order and doesn’t send me everything I call and make them fix it.  However, the other day when I ordered one frozen yogurt and they sent two I didn’t say anything.  I’m pretty sure that’s morally wrong.  I’ll probably go to hell now.
  • Sometimes when I watch movies I get these crazy ideas.  Like when I watched Precious I decided I was going to give up my career and become a teacher in an inner city school so I could make a difference.  Last night when I watched The Blind Side I wanted to open my home to a troubled kid.  Elizabethtown made me want to take a road trip (see yesterday’s post for more details).  After watching Sex and the City 2 I decided I wanted to go to Abu Dhabi on vacation with my mom, sister-in-law and SIL’s aunt.  I even went online and did research.  I know – I’m totally nuts.
  • By the way, if you haven’t seen The Blind Side you totally should.  It was great.

Now for your surprise and the best part of my whole week…guess who’s back in NYC???  That’s right ladies…Mr. Bloom has returned.  He was apparently in NYC for some sort of dyslexia awareness event…at least that’s what people magazine said.  Here’s a picture of him at the event on Wednesday…

As my co-worker read this information to me, I looked out the window and what did I see???  That’s right…Orlando Bloom, right there on the balcony!  Of course, by the time I grabbed my camera, he’d turned around and a minute later he went inside.  However, I did manage to get one shot of him…

I realize it’s of the back of his head and that it could be anyone…but, trust me, it was him.  He’s even wearing the same shirt!  I think he’s a little shy to turn around and look our way because he knows we stalk him.  J thinks we should write him a message on the windows in lipstick.  We haven’t done it yet, but we are considering it.  Something like…Hi or We love you Orlando… or Take your shirt off.  If we do decide to move forward with that plan, I’ll take some video.  And if I see him again today I will definitely get a better pic for you ladies.

I have to get back to my stalker post at the window now…have a great weekend everyone.

Fleet week, tourists and sex…

Last week Allyson reminded us all to hug a veteran this weekend and thank them for their service to our country.  I asked her if, since it was Fleet Week, it would be acceptable to grab some sailors’ butts instead.  She said it was and asked for a post about Fleet Week for all those not lucky enough to be here in NYC.  However, I was so pre-occupied by my various injuries yesterday that I forgot.  So…as promised…Fleet Week…

According to Wikipedia Fleet Week is a United States Navy, United States Marine Corp and United States Coast Guard tradition in which active military ships recently deployed in overseas operations dock in a variety of major cities for one week. Once the ships dock, the crews can enter the city and visit its tourist attractions. At certain hours, the public can take a guided tour of the ships. Often, Fleet Week is accompanied by military demonstrations and air shows such as provided by the Blue Angels.

It’s very cool to watch the ships come in on the first day.  Our old apartment had a view of the river and we’d always watch the ships coming through NY Harbor and up the Hudson River.  It’s my second favorite part of Fleet Week.  The favorite part, of course, is all the cuties walking around in their uniforms.  Pretty much every place you go during the week, you will find packs of roving sailors.  Of course, when I was all set to take pictures for this post, I couldn’t find one single man in uniform.  Luckily, NY Magazine had better luck.  So this is what NYC looks like during Fleet Week…

NY Magazine

Sadly, yesterday was the last day of this year’s Fleet Week activities and all the ships will be leaving today.  Now if I want to see hot servicemen in uniform, I have to go to the recruiting center in Times Square.  Boo!  Or I can go visit Ally on the Army base in Georgia.

Speaking of visiting, now that it’s “summer” NYC is getting very crowded with tourists.  I know this because the lines at the deli where I get breakfast have been insanely long.  Now, I’ve bitched about tourists before and their tendency to get in the way because they are so busy looking up at the buildings, etc.  The thing is…I kind of get that.  I mean, there’s a lot to see here and sometimes you can get preoccupied and you don’t realize you are in the way.  I don’t like it, but I get it.  What I don’t get is why it’s so complicated to order breakfast.

You are a tourist.  You don’t live here and you’ve probably never been in that deli before.  I don’t expect the deli guy to know what you are going to order as soon as he sees you like he does for me.  However, I do expect that you won’t make a 20 minute production out of ordering a bagel with cream cheese or an egg sandwich.  Also, did you not see the self-serve coffee station with the giant sign right by the door?  I sound like a bitch, don’t I?  I don’t mean to…but I’m not a morning person as it is and the deli guy has my stuff ready for me by the time I get to the counter…I want to get in and get out.  Please don’t get in the way with your hemming and hawing over eggs.  They are just eggs…the same ones they have everywhere else.  Thanks!

Now for the sex…or, mor specifically, the Sex and the City.  I got to see it this weekend and I really liked it.  I know it got crappy reviews, but don’t believe it.  There were some parts that I laughed until I had tears.  The clothes were great, of course, and the story was totally realistic.  Well, mostly realistic in a Sex sort of way.  I won’t give away anything for those of you who haven’t seen it, but I will say if you are a fan you will love the latest installment.

Off to work…have a great day!
