Winner, winner, chicken dinner…

First I have to take care of a little business.  With all my heavy questions about death yesterday, I totally forgot to announce the winner of the apron giveaway.  The winner was Charlotte from My Pixie Blog!  She won her choice of apron from Creative Chics.  It was a tough decision for her because all the aprons are so adorable, but Charlotte chose this one…

Adorable, right? I received my apron over the weekend and it’s really gorgeous.  It’s so well made and the fabric is really high quality.  If you are in the market for an apron, I suggest you head over to their Etsy shop.  You will love their stuff.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way…I have nothing else to say!  I hate days like this.  J was out last night at a class he’s taking and he got home much later than usual…around 11.  By the time I made him something to eat and I got the dogs walked and settled it was 12:30.  At that point I was over tired and cranky and J was still wide awake and watching Two and Half Men…which was just annoying me and I couldn’t fall asleep.  I ended up in the guest room where it’s dark and quiet and I have the bed all to myself, but I could still hear Jon Cryer’s whiney voice coming from the other room.  Plus, Sofie decided to follow me and plop her hot little body right on top of me.  Finally, after turning on the fan and putting in earplugs, I fell asleep…somewhere around 1:30.

Needless to say, after a 5:45 wake up time, I’m totally  exhausted and my brain isn’t really functioning.  I have notes that I wrote the other day with lots of ideas on them, but at the moment I can’t get past the first sentence of any of them.

So I’m going to go eat breakfast and read other people’s blogs and try to find the rest of my Halloween costume online.  Oh…and work.  I have to do some work also.

I promise I’ll be way more interesting tomorrow.

Moving right along…

I’ve completed another item on the 101 list.  We had our last baking class this past Friday and that completes #  – Take a baking class at ICE.

This week was sponge cake and angel food cake.  We learned the proper techniques for whipping egg whites and our cakes came out light and fluffy and delicious.  Look at this gorgeous chocolate angel food cake…

It doesn’t look all impressive like the cakes from last week, but it was delicious with a little strawberry compote and vanilla whipped cream.  Even J liked it and he hasn’t eaten any of the cakes so far…because they were too “fancy” for him.

This is Roberto.  He is a student there and was the chef’s assistant for our classes.  He loved us and often brought us treats from the professional classes.  He also told us we should open a bakery.

This is our instructor, Chef Reeni.  She was hilarious and a great teacher…and was once a competitor on Food Network Challenge: Ultimate Wedding Cakes.

Overall, the class was fantastic.  Marisa and I had so much fun and we learned a lot about making our cakes light and moist and delicious.  Next on the agenda…we have to learn how to decorate them and maybe even sculpt them…Reeni is offering a class on it in the spring.  Duff Goldman, watch out.

I decided to reward myself for finishing the class with a brand new apron, which I fully intend to wear with pearls, just like in the photo…

It’s from Creative Chics and I think it’s just adorable.  Freda, the proprietor, is wonderful as well.  Definitely check our their Etsy store and their blog.

To celebrate crossing another item off my list…I’m going to cross yet another item off the list.  I’m going to give one of you an apron too!  That’s right…a giveaway…although let’s call it a present…I don’t like the G word.

I also don’t like rules, so I’m going to make this simple…

  • every comment you leave for me this week is one entry.
  • post about this on your own blog you will get three extra entries.  (make sure you let me know you’ve posted)

That’s it.  Easy, right?  At the end of the week, I will select the winner at random using Random.org.  I will accept entries until Saturday and I will announce the winner next Monday.  The winner will be able to choose any apron from Creative Chics.

Last, but not least…I have to give a special mention to my favorite sister-in-law.  Today is her birthday and she also got a new job.  Both of these things are very exciting so please join me in wishing her the best birthday and oodles of luck at the new gig.

Happy Monday everyone.

Better late than never…

So I had every intention of posting the winner of the giveaway yesterday.  But then I didn’t.  See, yesterday I didn’t get out of bed until 12:30 in the afternoon.  J and I ate a leisurely breakfast and then we went into the backyard to do some manual labor…during the very hottest part of the day.  Oh…and did I mention we are having a heat wave in NY?  Yup, that’s right…it was 98 degrees out and we decided that moving pavers and pulling weeds in direct sunlight was a good way to spend the afternoon.  We are not smart.  At least we stopped short of digging holes for the new fence posts that we are going to be installing.

Needless to say…I never managed to sit down at my computer long enough to get a post completed.  Please forgive me for making you wait an extra day.  Now…without further ado…the winner of this lovely necklace

is…

Christine from Raised Queer!  Congratulations!  Email me your information and I will send the necklace out this week.

Also…good news…there is going to be a second chance drawing.  Juliann was kind enough to send me something extra and I will be giving it away this Friday.  It will be a second chance drawing and everyone will be eligible…excecpt Christine…because she already won.

I hope everyone had a great 4th and a relaxing long weekend.  Now get back to work!

Random musings Friday…the 100th post edition…

So I managed to do it…to reach my 100th post!  When I started this blog I honesty didn’t think anyone would want to read it.  Now, here I am, 100 posts later and I still can’t believe that you guys stop by here every day and read the crap I write about.  And the comments…are always awesome and helpful and funny and supportive.  I love all of your faces off!  Seriously.

In order to thank you all properly for supporting me through my first 100, I have a little something for you…

This beautiful necklace is from Creations by Juliann…my new favorite Etsy shop.  You have to go over to check out her shop…her stuff is so pretty and romantic and I seriously love it all.  While I was there picking out this little lovely, I chose a few items for myself as well.  This morning I went over there again (to steal these pictures) and found even more great stuff.  Go visit her…I guarantee you will find something you love.

I don’t like a lot of rules, so I’m going to keep this pretty simple..

  • Go visit Creations by Juliann and leave me a comment on this post telling me which item is your favorite – 1 entry.
  • Post about this giveaway on your blog – 3 entries.
  • Come back here every day next week and leave a comment – 1 entry per day.

The contest will be open until next Friday, July 2nd at midnight.  A winner will be selected (via Random.org) over the weekend and I will post the results on Monday, July 5th.  Good luck.

Now for this week’s random musings…

  • There was another ridiculous line in front of Apple this morning…not as long of a line as yesterday, but still significant.  Of course, there was also a large crowd on the other side of the plaza by The Early Show set.  They weren’t there for iPhones though.  They were there to see Alicia Keys.  I think that is a much more worthwhile activity.
  • J and I are still engaged in the war of the kitchen appliances.  Now instead of just moving the same thing back and forth, we have started re-arranging everything…daily.  I think the only way for us to end this war is to buy a new house with a bigger kitchen.
  • I have had Alejandro by Lady Gaga stuck in my head for about a week.  The thing is…I can’t stand that song.  Seriously.  I know this is a controversial statement…but I’m not a huge fan of Gaga.  The ridiculous outfits and the gimmicks and the crazy behavior are things I just cannot get behind. I mean, really…underwear at a Mets game?  They play bad enough as it is…they don’t need the additional distraction.  And the woman ruined a perfectly good Birkin bag by writing all over it.  What is that about?  If she didn’t want it, she could have sent it to me.  But I digress.  I do think she’s got a great voice and I like most of her songs.  But Alejandro?  I can’t stand it.  I think it’s because they play it on the radio here every 5 minutes.  On Sunday when I got in the car, it was on two stations at the same time.  I’ve mentally changed the words to “Please go away, Please go away, Alejandro.”  It doesn’t seem to be working.
  • I bought tickets this morning to see Jay-Z and Eminem at Yankee Stadium and I’m soooo freaking excited.  They are just about the worst possible seats.  I don’t think it’s possible for us to be further away from the stage…by 10:10 they were already sold out!  But I’ll be there…September 14th…with my brother and sister-in-law.  Yay!!!  People seem to be surprised when I divulge that I am a Jay-Z fan.  Are you guys surprised?  I guess it’s because I also like Sarah McLachlan and sparkly vampires and dresses.

That’s it for this week, dear readers.  Sorry this post is so late.  My boss is going on vacation next week and it’s super busy here.  Plus I was pre-occupied buying concert tickets and it took me a while to get on over here.  I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend…

Long live the World Trade, long live the king yo…I’m from the Empire State…
