101 in 1001…Take Two…

My new job is relatively low-stress.  (Of course, compared with my last job, everything is low stress.)  Most days are quiet and I do whatever is on my to-do list and that’s really it.  I’m busy and I work hard during the day…but I usually have a plan and I rarely rush and I never get stressed out and I manage to get everything done by the end of the day.  Most days.

Today is not most days.

Today is October 10th…five days before the extended tax filing deadline.  I hate October 15th with the fire of a thousand suns.  No matter how much work you do ahead of time and no matter how much you try to be prepared…it’s never enough.  The week leading up to the 15th is always a hot mess.

I had a plan today.  I was going to go walking, eat breakfast, take a shower, write my post for today and be at my desk by 9am for a phone call.  Except…as I was about to get into the shower, the phone rang.  A client with questions…which is fine and I’m always happy to answer.  But that call ran into my 9am call, which ran into another call, which led to a few emails, which turned into more questions.  PS…It’s 3pm and I finally just took a shower.  I also now understand why J blocks out his calendar and refuses to answer his phone in the few days before the 15th.  That’s never been an option for me before…but it’s looking better and better every minute.

Anyway…now that I’ve taken a shower, I’m using my (very late) lunch time to write today’s post.

Back in September of 2010, I wrote my first 101 in 1001 list.  For the 1001 days that followed, I periodically crossed things off that list…until May of 2013 rolled around and I realized I’d only finished about half the things on my list.  I counted it as a fail and started writing a new list.  It took me a while to put together that new list…partly because I’m a natural procrastinator, but also because I wanted to make sure I really had the time to finish it.  So I waited until I fully stepped away from my old job (it was a 6 month long transition) and I was fully settled in my new job.  September 1st seemed the perfect day to start and so I did.

Here is the new list…

If you look at the old list you’ll see some of these have made a comeback.  Some are because I didn’t finish them the first time.  Some are because they were so fun the first time that I want to do them again.

Since it’s October now, I’ve been at this for a little while and there are a few things crossed off my list.  I’m off to a good start and I’m really excited to cross off some more.  There are some big plans in the works.  Stay tuned…

  1. Please let me know in advance when you make plans to come to Nashville – I’d love to meet up for lunch. Mike used to live there so we know of a few fun places in West End (not the heart of Nashville but fun for a lunch date). And I love the coloring book one – I often think about purchasing a huge box of crayons and doing this, maybe I will :)

  2. Oh, I love this list and can’t wait to see your progress! This in particular, I’ve always wanted to do, too: Learn to cook ten dishes without a recipe. <I feel like I always have to crack a cookbook or consult Pinterest before I cook anything (unless it's a stir fry. Or an omelette).

Go skinny dipping? I'm sure J would love that one 😉 XOXO
