Mercury sucks…

Do you guys remember a show a few years ago called “Worst Week”?  It was about a guy who had the worst luck ever and pretty much anything that could go wrong for him did.  I hated that show.  I always thought it was so unrealistic.  I mean…how could someone be so completely unlucky that every single thing they do ends up going sideways?  You have to have something go right once in a while…right?

At least, that’s what I thought…until this past weekend.

This weekend, everything that could go wrong, went wrong.

It started when the fridge in CT died.  This actually happened a few weeks ago, but we hadn’t ordered a new fridge until this morning.  (J is a bad decision maker!)  We’ve been keeping ice in a cooler and refrigerated items in a mini fridge in the basement.  Like hobos.  And let me tell you…having to go downstairs every single time you want a drink gets really old, really fast.

On Friday, J discovered carpenter ants in the basement while he was changing the crystals in the water softener.  It looks like we caught them early and we’ve sprayed and put down poison and bait traps.  Now I keep finding huge, fat dead ants all over the kitchen.  But I guess better dead on the kitchen floor than burrowing holes in the floor joists.

Then the vet called and said Sofie has Giardia, which is a parasite.  Again, we caught it early and she hasn’t really had symptoms.  But both dogs have to be on medication for a week.  It could be worse.  They could both be pooping all over the house.  But this was not the nicest news to wake up to on Saturday.

The dishwasher seems to be leaking, but we can’t figure out where the water is coming from, so I feel like all I did all weekend was wash dishes.  We pulled it out to see if we could find the source, but nothing.  So we bought a new dishwasher too.  It’s times like this that I miss renting.  When the dishwasher in the old apartment died, we just called the super and we had a new one in two days.  For free.  This new dishwasher and fridge are definitely not free.

When we got home from CT, we discovered that the hose from the sump pump in the basement had once again developed a huge hole and was spraying water all over the laundry room all weekend.  Everything was soaked, including the carpet outside the room.  It’s an easy fix, but what a freaking mess!

And I can’t forget the fabulous topper to the whole wonderful weekend.  It seems that something happened to our fish tank filter while we were in CT and we came home to find that all of our fish were dead.  Yup…our poor little fish were all floating at the top of the tank.  When I saw that, I just completely burst into tears.  We’ve had those fish for something like eleven years.  They have survived a move and two weeks of no power after hurricanes and more bouts of ick than I can to think about.  But with no filter and the house being so hot, the water got polluted and they just couldn’t survive it.  I was so sad for them.  And also…the house stunk of rotten fish, which was so gross.

The good news is that J found some fish babies in the tank last night.  I’m happy that something survived.  And I’m happy that this weekend is over.  I’m chalking it all up to Mercury being in retrograde, which is happening for another two weeks or so.  But I’m really hoping things start looking up soon.  I don’t think I can take another 13 days of this nonsense!

  1. Goodness – that IS one hell of a week. You need some downtime for sure. I’m happy that everything was fixable, and sorry about your fish. I hope some good vibes head your way!!!

  2. Yikes, I’m so very sorry to hear about the week you’ve had. My God, when it rains, it certainly does pour, eh? I’m sorry about your fish :( I would’ve been so upset about them, too, especially since you’ve had them for so long. But I’m glad that Sofie will be okay and that baby fishies survived. Here’s to a much better week ahead!

XOXO and it was so nice to have some news from you! I hope all is well and that you’re enjoying your summer, beautiful girl!

  3. Oh geeze. That is all just awful. I’m so sorry. I hope the passing of the fish was the end of a very bad week.
