A debate…

I promise that I will post about all the things I mentioned earlier in the week…just as soon as I feel better and can actually continue a train of thought for more than 30 seconds.

But for now…I need you all to settle a debate.

I hate having a cold.  I hate not being able to breathe and not being able to sleep and having a stuffy head…not to mention the sore nose and the chapped lips and just the general misery that comes along with a cold.  If given the choice, I’d take a stomach virus over a cold every day of the week.

I mentioned this to my boss yesterday and he told me I was nuts.  He had a stomach virus recently and when he followed the doctor’s orders to drink Gatorade, it only made him sicker (think projectile vomiting).  He says I’m nuts to prefer a stomach virus and he’d rather have a month-long cold than a day long stomach bug.

So I wonder…if you all had to be sick, what would you prefer…a stomach virus or a head cold?

Comments

  1. I’d take the head cold over the stomach virus. Usually you can find something or a series of somethings to get you through the symptoms of a head cold and you can limp along with your day depending.

A stomach virus, though, ugh–vomiting is one of the worst feelings in the world, to me, and much more difficult to soothe or work around compared to the head cold.

  2. I agree completely! Neither are great, but a stomach bug is usually gone much quicker than a head cold and you get the added bonus of dropping a few pounds 😉

  3. Stomach all the way. Barfing is not comfy and you may feel like hell for a good 24 hours, but then – it’s done. Plus it forces you to stay home and take care of yourself whereas a cold, while people say stay home – secretly (and not so secretly) they think you’re a baby because “it’s just a cold.” Plus, who can stay home for a month – it’s a cold, life goes on. A cold for a month? No thank you.

  4. I would much rather have a head cold. I can function with that. I hate getting sick, hate it. I was actually thanking God on vacation that he gave me the flu (even though it made me cry and I’m not a crier) over a stomach virus. Puking and crapping my brains out is not my idea of better.

Get yourself some Mucinex DM or D – trust me, it will help you. You will need to blow your nose about a million times, so invest in tissues with lotion in them, trust me they are a life saver! And note you have to drink TONS of water on the Muccinex – TONS! The water helps flush the system. I started taking the Muccinex as soon as I started to get stuffy in CO and while I felt like a snot rag, it helped get it out of my system. I don’t like meds that dry me up, I feel like that just prolongs things.

    Get well soon sweetie!!!!

  5. I’d definitely take the cold. I can still function with a cold. Barely but I can still function. A stomach virus is the worst. I HATE vomiting. I mean, I know no one enjoys vomiting but I really really hate it and will do everything in my power to avoid it. It’s why I rarely get really drunk. I never want to get to the point of barfing. Also, I hate when I have diarrhea so bad that my butthole hurts. From all the liquid pooping. TMI? Sorry. You brought it up! :-)

  6. This is a tough one. On one hand, the stomach virus helps you lose holiday weight, but at least with a cold I can still go in public and not shit my pants. Plus, I just got over a cold in three days after following every natural remedy in the book. So I think I’m going to go with head cold. Yes. Head cold.

I hope you feel better soon! It’s a pain in the ass being sick either way.

  7. I feel like I can very accurately weigh in on this as I have just had both. And I’m going with stomach flu all the way. I would much rather have to severely restrict my diet and feel a bit weak than have a raw and runny nose, a splitting headache and sore sinuses. Although bear in mind that I’m not a puker. So I do everything in my power to keep it down which means it has to come out. And while that’s not pleasant, I still prefer it…
