Day 9…The Greyston Bakery…

So here at Fumbling Towards Normalcy, we like to give to charity and help others…but we like to get stuff too.  And we like cake.  Which is why today’s organization is perfect!

Greyston Bakery was founded in 1982 by a group of people whose goal was to produce quality, locally made products that would provide them a sustainable living.  Their motto is “We don’t hire people to bake brownies, we bake brownies to hire people”.  It’s kind of nice to hear that a company’s mission is to hire more people, instead of cutting jobs to make more money.  Even better…the bakery uses their profits to support the Greyston Foundation, which uses the money to support low-income housing, childcare, healthcare and technology education.  It really is a great organization with a great mission.

In addition to providing desserts to NYC’s top restaurants, the bakery provides all brownie mix-ins for Ben & Jerry’s and they have a fantastic line of gourmet brownies, cookies and whoopie pies.  Seriously…the whoopie pies are to die for.  And the prices are great.  I had a box of brownies and a box of whoopie pies delivered to my office last week and they were gone in a day.  Even the people in the office who don’t normally eat sweets at them.  That’s how good they are!

If you are looking for some great desserts for the holidays, order some things from the website.  You’ll help yourself by getting some delicious treats and you’ll help a great organization in the process.

Don’t forget them for corporate gifts either!

  1. I love this! What a fantastic mission! If more companies operated this way, I wonder how much our national debt would go down, and unemployment, too! What a great example they are setting!
