I’ve discovered many things I love through Daily Candy. The most recent one is Gifts That Give…on online retailer that donates a portion of your purchase to the charity of your choice. Here’s how it works…
First, you go to giftsthatgive.com and select your favorite charity from their database of 1.2 million Guidestar approved charitable causes. You can search for you favorite cause by name or you can browse the list by category.
Once you’ve chosen your cause, you go shopping. There are over 100 designers brands to choose from, including Emenegildo Zegna, Jay Strongwater, Jonathan Adler, Lily Pulitzer and my personal favorite, Jellycat.
Then you checkout and 20% of your total purchase is sent to the charity you chose.
It’s as simple as that.
I went on this site yesterday and found great Christmas gifts for three people on my list…and I picked up a little something for myself too. I spent $121 on my purchases and $24.20 of that will go to the charity of my choice. My friends getting great gifts and a portion of the sale going to a fantastic charity…I couldn’t ask for more.
In case you were wondering…the charity I chose to support was Bright Pink. Bright Pink is the only national non-profit organization focusing on the risk reduction and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women while providing support for high-risk individuals. I chose this charity because I have a friend who found out through genetic testing that she was a high risk for breast and ovarian cancer. She chose to have risk-reducing surgery and when she went online to look for information about it, she couldn’t find much. So she basically went into the surgery not knowing what to expect.
Bright Pink is hoping to change all that. Their mission is to make sure that no woman goes through what my friend went through. By providing information, resources and support they hope to make what can be a scary and difficult decision a bit easier. It’s really a wonderful organization and I encourage you to visit their site and support them however you can.
Hey…look at that…I snuck in two ways to give today!
