Where I’ve been…

Two weeks ago, one of my co-workers came to work feeling a little under the weather. It was a Friday and I told her that if she was still feeling sick on Monday she should stay home. She’s relatively new, so I explained to her that there are five of us who sit practically on top of each other in two little tiny rooms and when one person comes to work sick it will spread like wildfire until we are all sick…and I really didn’t want to be sick.

I guess she didn’t believe me, because Monday morning she was at her desk…looking like death. I begged her to go home and she did. She stayed home the next day and returned on Wednesday claiming to feel better…but really, she was lying. The next day, she announced that her throat was so sore she couldn’t even swallow frozen yogurt and she was thinking she might have strep.

I freaked…because I had no interest in being sick…and I really had no interest in having strep.  I once again begged her to go home…and to see a doctor.  I asked her to please not come back to work until she’d been cleared by a medical professional.  She refused to go home, but she did go to the doctor that night…who told her she didn’t have strep and she wasn’t contagious…anymore.  Meaning that she’d been contagious before.  I crossed my fingers and prayed not to get sick.

By last Monday morning, I was sick as a dog.  I had the worst sore throat I’ve ever had.  I had chills.  I was congested.  I was miserable.  Unfortunately…it was a virus and there was nothing I could do for it but wait it out.  Also unfortunately…last week was one of my busiest weeks at work and I couldn’t just stay home.  I had to be in the office every day…feeling like hell and risking getting everyone else sick.  To say I was unhappy was an understatement.  I was sick and miserable and royally pissed off.

I spent five days drinking tea with honey non-stop, taking any medications I thought might make me feel even slightly better and trying to get as much rest as I could.  Basically, all I did was work and sleep.  Oh…and eat…chicken soup and bread.  That’s all that sounded good to me.

Luckily…it worked.  While my sick co-worker spent two weeks feeling sick, I started feeling better after five days and I finally feel back to normal today.  Sadly, I missed an entire week of blogging and my house is a complete disaster…because I didn’t clean up a single thing while I was feeling lousy.

So…I apologize for disappearing last week and for flaking out on the link up for Random Musings Friday.  And I thank those of you who emailed to see if I was dead or alive.  It was nice to know I was missed!

I’m back this week…and I’ll be freeing my mind tomorrow and discussing boy logic and March Madness later in the week.  I hope you all had a better week than I did!

  1. I am glad you are ok. I was a little worried. I was giving you until today before I sent the “alive?” email. My co-worker was out with strep last week and she said she was literally delerious and couldn’t think straight. Sounds terrible.

  2. I know you didn’t just apologize to us for being sick and not blogging. I’m just glad you’re OK. Ugh I hate when people are sick at work and won’t just go home. Good for you for giving your body what it needed, even though you had to work! ox

  3. I realize its a little late now, but a tip that my doctor shared with me:
When your throat is sore, drink cold, icy drinks – smoothies, slurpees – because the cold numbs your throat and it feels a bit better. Hot drinks, like tea, actually indulge the inflammation and make it feel worse.
Glad to hear you are feeling well enough to indulge in your maddening March 😉

  4. Wah Wah. I hate being sick. Now that I work in cubicle land I am all too familiar with the death stares one receives when coming to work sick. You can’t even sneeze in my office without someone coming over and asking why are you here. It’s pretty annoying but better than the alternative I suppose. Glad you’re feeling better – and I would have emailed too if I hadn’t simultaneously neglected my blog-land too last week! Looking forward to a week of catch-up!
