Random Musings Friday…

I didn’t work Wednesday and I have decided that I love having Wednesday off.  It really breaks up the week nicely…and makes it seem really short!

I’m so excited for this weekend.  We are supposed to get a snowstorm…which is the perfect excuse to stay in my pajamas all day tomorrow and watch movies and drink hot chocolate.  And we are really excited for the Giants/49ers game on Sunday.

And now…for this week’s random musings…

  • Last night, I opened a fortune cookie and the fortune said “You will get a surprise this weekend”.  I don’t tend to put much stock in the fortunes in cookies…but there is some news that I’m waiting for and I’m hoping this is an eerie prophecy that I’ll get that news this weekend.  (No, Dad…I’m not pregnant.)  I’m just hoping that the surprise is a good one!  I’ll let you guys know on Monday.
  • On Wednesday, I went to get a pedicure.  I haven’t gotten one since the summer and my feet were…well, let’s just say that they weren’t as soft and lovely as they were when I was getting regular pedicures.  I felt really guilty for making the pedicurist work on them.  I mean, I’m sure they weren’t the worst she’s ever seen by a longshot…but still…I felt bad.  So I gave her a huge tip.  I have made a vow to get at least monthly pedicures going forward.  My toes look so cute now.
  • When I left work last night, I walked outside and traffic was at a complete standstill.  Up ahead a few blocks there were tons of flashing lights and barricades.  At first I thought someone had gotten hurt…maybe hit with a car or something.  But then I remembered…the president was in town and having dinner at Spike Lee’s house.  He was just arriving so the street was barricaded until he was safely inside.  I had to stand in the cold for twenty minutes while we waited.  This crap happens all the time.  The Obamas are big fans of NYC…especially at rush hour.  I find it really annoying that they don’t consider how it’s going to screw up traffic and delay all of the hard-working people of NY from getting home after a long day of work.  It almost makes me want to vote Republican!
  • I read an article this week that there is a new school in Utah and the student voted to have a cougar for a mascot.  However, the board of directors turned them down and made them choose something else…bcause they felt the cougar would be offensive to middle-aged women.  I don’t know about anyone else…but the cougar mascot would never be offensive to me.  But I do find the board of directors’ decision extremely offensive…and stupid.  The article didn’t specify, but I’m betting they are all men.

And lastly…we have my favorite story of the week…

  • Joe Flacco, quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, was riding a skateboard in his driveway this week and his neighbor totally busted him.  The neighbor called the GM’s office and left a message ratting him out and asking that someone remind him that the Ravens are trying to win a Superbowl!  I think it’s hilarious…but I have to agree with the neighbor.  Joe, what the hell are you thinking?  You have a game to win this week!  Tom Brady needs that stupid, smug look wiped off his face and you can’t do that if you break your arm skateboarding.  Come on now…cut that crap out.

While I was writing this, I stapled something…and ended up stapling my finger in the process.  I’m not sure how I manage these things.  So I’m off to go tend to my injury.  Link up with me below and tell me your random musings of the week…and have a fantastic weekend.

  1. 1. I admit I haven’t had a pedicure in a long time (I don’t particularly like them) and part of it is that I’m embarrassed for whoever would have to work on them. So I put it off and they look shabbier and then I feel even worse. It’s a vicious cycle.

    2. That’s kind of funny about Flacco. I’m not sure I would have even thought of him skateboarding as anything wrong. But then, maybe it’s because my husband skateboards and dirt bikes all the time with no incident. Knock on wood :)

And also, as a mini-Cougar, I never in a million years would be offended by a big cat as a mascot. I wouldn’t even be offended if the mascot were an actual 40-year-old woman. That would just be hilarious

  2. I’m with you on the Obamas…. but not enough that I’ll consider going Republican in the next election 😉 That being said, why can’t they make their rounds any other part of the day?

I went for a mani yesterday and it was the greatest feeling. I’m scared to get a pedi…it has been SO dreadfully long. But soon.

Also, that whole cougar mascot story is just all sorts of ridiculous to me.

  3. Is it wrong that I was hoping you were going to say Flacco broke his arm while skateboarding? I will take him over Brady any day but it’s really for me just the lesser of two evils.

What I think is funny is that when you said “cougar” my first image wasn’t of the majestic animal but in fact a middle aged woman on the prowl… see what society has done to me?!?! 😉

HAPPY FRIDAY!!! I’ll be linking up shortly!

  4. WOW, how crazy. Just the other day my fortune cookie said the exact same thing! I love your blog!

  5. I need a pedicure, too. My MIL and I were going to do this a while back, and then we never did. I think when I get my Christmas massage, I’ll go and get my feet examined, too. I haven’t had a pedicure in over two years. SAD.

    Ugh… The Obamas…

I can’t wait to hear about the surprise! I love surprises! Can we have a clue!!?

  6. Oh, lovely Shana, how I’ve missed reading your blog. I love the uncanny hilarity of your life juxtaposed with reality. Like stapling your finger. Which is something I would totally do, btw. I look forward to going back!
