Random Musings Friday…

Yay…it’s Friday!  Although I really had to think about it this morning to figure out what day it was.  Short weeks really confuse the hell out of me.

The big news for me this week is that I made a bunch of progress on my 101 list…which I’ll tell you about next week.

For now, I’m going to tell you my random musings instead…

  • I read an article about Priscilla of Boston closing their stores.  I wasn’t sorry to hear it…they aren’t exactly my favorite store.  But what the article said was kind of appalling…instead of donating their stock, the employees spray painted the dresses and shoes and threw them in the dumpster.  We are talking about very expensive designer dresses here…just thrown away when they could have been used by someone.  They should be ashamed of themselves.  Luckily, this act was witnessed and the backlash was so great that David’s Bridal, the parent company, decided to donate whatever hadn’t already been destroyed.  Stories like this make me crazy…it’s such a waste.  I hope more companies take a lesson here and donate unused merchandise instead of trashing it.
  • Namecandy.com published thier annual list of the names of the first baby born in each state.  As I read through the list of 2012 names I wondered if the parents of the first babies born felt more pressure in choosing a name since so many people would be hearing about it.  I think I would feel pressure to come up with a good name that wasn’t boring, but also wasn’t too odd.  I wouldn’t want people saying “Geez…that’s what she chose to name her kid???”
  • Speaking of the name list…as I read the names I noticed there was a Khloe…and I wondered if the parents spelled it that way because of Khloe Kardashian.  I really hope not…and if they did, I feel sorry for that kid.

Unfortunately, with the short week, everything felt very rushed and I didn’t ever stop to take good notes.  So my list is pretty short this week.  I hate when that happens.

But it gives you guys all a good reason to link up and share your random musings.  Just grab the button, list your random musings in a post and put your link below…

  1. Yikes… I love the name Chole… Khloe not so much. I guess to each his/her own but yikes!

That is horrible that Pricilla’s did that – well their employees. I remember when I worked retail for Lerner, not NY and CO. We used to take the final mark downs and use a sharpie to blacken out the tags and then send the clothing to donation centers. Not sure what that marking would do on the tag that was on the shirt but I guess it’s the same as getting mark downs w/ the tag cut. EIther way it went somewhere it wasn’t trashed!

  2. I don’t understand the need for spray painting. You want that badly for people not be able to wear your clothes? Disturbing.

  3. I’m pretty sure they’re contractually obligated to destroy it. When I worked at bookstores, we always had to rip the covers off of magazines and books and send them back to the publisher, where they burn them. It’s called stripping, and it NEVER made any sense to me. Why not donate them to a library, etc.? Oh, money, you slay me. How ridiculous.

Choosing baby names is really hard, luckily we have traditions in our family that prevent people ending up with names like Apple and Rainbow.

  4. Poor baby Khloe. Her parents must be such douche canoes. And shame on Priscilla of Boston… What a waste of perfectly good clothing :( I hate hearing things like this. That’s just awful.
