Top Five Tuesday…

Last week, J and I watched a show about Lottery winners.  One of the women featured said she always believed she would win so she went about her life as though she already had the money.  She sought the advice of a money manager, she consulted a real estate agent and researched neighborhoods where she might want to live…she made plans as though she was already rich.  Oh…and she wrote $120,000,000 on a piece of paper and slept with it under her pillow.

And she won $120,000,000 in the lottery.  Coincidence?  I think not.  I think this woman is on to something.  So I’ve decided to keep a piece of paper that says $120,000,000 under my pillow while I sleep.  (I was going to go with $500,000,000, but I didn’t want the universe to think I was being greedy!)  I’m going to try to bring some of the money vibes to my house.  I’m also starting to plan what I’m going to do with my money when I win.

So here, I present you with The Top 5 Things I’m Going To Do With My Lottery Winnings…

  1. Pay off the debt…I hate debt, so it’s all getting paid off…the mortgages, the car loan…and anything else we owe.  And then I’m going to pay off some other people’s debts…the mortgages, car loans, student loans and credit cards.  Then we are all going to live happy, debt-free lives.
  2. I’m going to grant some wishes…I love the Make a Wish Foundation.  I think what they do for terminally ill children and their families is amazing.  I have always wanted to be a wish granter, but it’s a time committment that I’ve never been able to make while working a full time job.  Well…a job will no longer be a problem, so I’m going to make being a wish granter my new job.
  3. I’m going to build a compound…I’m going to find a huge piece of property and build a bunch of houses so I can have everyone I love living within walking distance.  And preferably, we’ll be in walking distance to the ocean as well.
  4. I’m going to buy a car…I’ve been coveting a Mercedes G550 since I first saw one about ten years ago.  Of course, I’ll never be able to afford it until I win the lottery.  It’s a huge indulgence…but I think it’s worth it.
  5. I’m going to check into Canyon Ranch…I’m going to the Berkshires and I’m going to get pampered and I’m going to eat gourmet food and I’m going to go on nature hikes and I’m going to relax.  For a month.  At least.

There are other things I’d do as well…but those are my top five.  And they are going to happen…it’s just a matter of time before my optimism pays off.

Now tell me…what would you do if you won the lottery?

  1. First I’d have to play the lottery, and I don’t, but on that off chance:

Yup, debt pay-off would be the first thing to happen (that and taxes). Probably build a home, though nothing so big as a compound :) A bit of a shopping spree, too, (gotta fill that house, after all). As long as I then had enough to live on (that money goes fast, you know) for a few years I’d work on building my illustration business and write/draw books.

  2. First of all…I’ve warned you about #1. So we’ll just leave it at that. And I would like to be the first to reserve a spot on your compound. If the ocean could be on one side and the mountains on the other, that would be pretty much perfect. OH and I’m going to need a daquiri machine installed in the bedroom. I don’t know where would start with my millions…although a 2011 Mustang sounds lovely. Oh and I would hire a chef to cook all of my Paleo meals. And maybe we would buy something for Neal, too.

  3. I found your blog through NaBloPoMo/BlogHer. Your title got my attention, and your post is wonderful. I wonder if there’s something to those money vibes? Let me know how it works out… I may have to borrow this idea. 😉

  4. 1. Buy a car, maybe two, just because we can. My car died and is being reborn this week, so a nice shiny new vehicle that runs would be faaaabulous.

    2. Build our dream home right on the edge of a lake in the mountains that’s far enough away from the city to be quiet, but close enough that I don’t forget what good coffee actually tastes like.

    3. College for the girls, my niece and nephew, and a college fund for women who are starting over and need some help.

    4. While we’re at it, a general fund for women starting over who need a little help. Kids or no kids.

    5. Vacations. Lots and lots of vacations. Europe, Africa, Asia, and the rest of the US.

  5. I would pay off tons of debt, fill the kids college fund and then travel a lot! Oh, and I might help out my family with their debt. 😛

  6. Oooh good question! I’d pay off debts, and donate a good chunk. We’d go on vacation! To Paris and Italy and Ireland and Australia. And? We wouldn’t have to worry about him having a job when we got back. And then I’d figure out what it is I want to be when I grow up and chase that dream, whether it means going to school or opening a business.

  7. OH!! what I’d do… I’d pay off my bills, send my kids to college (without stressing over it), I’d buy a HUGE piece of land and build an orphanage! where kids got hot meals, warm showers, and comfy cozy beds at night.. and last I’d give a portion to the entire family! My one goal would be not to change who I am!!! :)
