Random Musings Friday…

Happy Friday.  This week has been…interesting.  It’s been long, but it’s flown by.  It’s been really busy, but also really boring.  I’ve been really productive, but I haven’t gotten anything done.  Like I said…interesting.  I have a very long to-do list for the weekend that includes cooking, baking, crafting, reading and watching movies.  Oh…and napping.  I plan to do quite a bit of napping.

Here’s what I’ve been musing about this week…

  • Yesterday, I had to go to the Apple store to buy my sister-in-law’s birthday gift.  Like everyone else around me, I was checking my email and reading Twitter while I waited in line.  Unlike everyone else around me, I was doing so on a Blackberry…not an iPhone.  I felt like such an outcast!  It was so bad that I actually put my phone in my pocket.  I spent the rest of my time looking around at the pretty awesome-looking computer equipment and contemplating why I don’t own more Apple products.  Of course, when I got the register and paid for my SIL’s iPad, I suddenly remembered.  But really…they are marketing geniuses over there.
  • Know what I’ve been wondering lately…why don’t they make the underside of toilets smooth?  You know…in the back of the toilet, where the water flows when you flush?  I mean, I understand the design and why the piping (is that what it is?) is bent the way it is.  But why do I have to see it?  Why not cover that area with some smooth porcelain…making it infinitely more attractive and so much easier to clean?  I think about this ever time I clean the bathroom.
  • I read an article that said more and more parents are rethinking their children’s names as the kids get older and are deciding to actually have the names changed.  I’m not sure how I feel about that.  On the one hand…I grew up with an unusual name that no one pronounces correctly and it drives me nuts.  I can’t tell you how many times I wished that I could change it.  On the other hand…I think it would be strange if my parents called me by one name for the first six months of my life and then suddenly started calling me something else.  I actually once had a client change their child’s name.  He gave in to his wife’s wishes when the baby was born and agreed on the name she liked.  But they never called the baby by that name…they only called him by his nickname.  When he was about to start school, they worried it would be confusing for him and other children so they had his name legally changed to his nickname.  That made a little more sense to me…though I still found it a bit odd.
  • It’s so cold in my office that I often go into the bathroom to wash my hands…just so I can warm them up under the hot water.  When they are like two blocks of ice at the ends of my arms, it’s heavenly to just run them under the water for a few minutes.  Now if only I could figure out how to warm my feet.
  • Earlier this week I posted about my ear-plug purchase.  Well…I also made several other online purchases this week and several of them arrived last night.  A few dresses…a pair of shoes.  But the thing I was most excited about was the ear plugs.  I couldn’t wait to tear the box open and I tried on about ten different types (of the 40 in the box) and I found two different kinds that I love, are super comfortable and blocked out almost all noise.  I still have quite a few styles to try…including a custom molded kind.  I’m going to be trying them all out during my multiple weekend naps…and I couldn’t be happier!  I guess it’s true what they say about the little things in life making you happy.

That’s all I have for this week.  Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!!

  1. I keep a space heater under my desk to warm my feet. I’ve tried running them under the hot water in the bathroom, but I was just getting to many weird looks…
    Have a great weekend!

  2. She stole my response! ^ I was going to say space heater. In the winter in Wisconsin, I had one at my feet at all times. I would have frozen to death had it not been for that wonderful invention.

As for toilets… can we start a petition? It takes me longer to clean all that swirly pipe crap than it does to scrub the whole floor. That’s ridiculous design. And it’s not even pretty.

  3. Sometimes I sit on my hands at work. It’s totally weird, but it gets so damn cold in here!

And totally hear you on the Apple store. As much as I love my ipod (and need a new one actually), I always feel weird going in there. Like I’m not wearing enough flannel or skinny jeans and forget about pulling out my Palm Pre in there! I’d prob get kicked out :p
