Random Musings Friday…

It is gorgeous outside today…warm, but not humid…sunny…slightly breezy.  Just beautiful.  I think I’m going to sneak out of work a little early just to enjoy some of the sunshine.  John Tesh told me that the key to a good night’s sleep is to get lots of exposure to the sun during the day.  So really…I’m going to leave work early for medical reasons.  Who can object to that logic?

But before I go…here are this week’s random musings…

  • I feel like every time I turn on the TV, I see a commercial for Nationwide Insurance or Farmers Insurance.  Both have entertaining commercials and catchy jingles.  In fact…the jingles are so catchy that they’ve been stuck in my head for over a week.  And last night, J was walking around the house singing “Nationwide is on your side”.  For about an hour.  Until I snapped and told him to stop.  So…good job Nationwide and Farmers…your commercials are really sticking with people.  Of course…your rates are terrible, which is why we have State Farm.  Because we base those kinds of decisions on how much it’s going to cost us…not who has the best commercial.  And let’s be honest…if we were going by best commercial we’d either go with Allstate or Geico.
  • Yesterday, I was walking to work behind a woman who was very pretty and very well dressed.  As we walked up to a red light and waited to cross the street, I was thinking how elegant and put together she looked.  I was just about to tell her how much I liked her dress…when I looked over and she was scratching her ass.  Right there…in the middle of the street.  So much for elegant.  And it made me wonder…don’t people realize that other people can see them???  If you really must scratch you ass…or pick your nose…or adjust your underwear…at least be a little discrete.
  • When J and I first started dating, we would sometimes exchange flirtatious IMs during the day while we were at work.  Nothing too dirty…just stuff like “Wait until you see the lingerie I bought to wear tonight.”  Stuff like that.  Of course…that was 10 years ago and things change.  Yesterday, I sent him an IM that said “What until you see what I’m going to make for dinner tonight”.  That, my friends, is what happens after ten years.

And lastly…the best thing I’ve seen all week…

  • There is a construction worker on 2nd Ave named Gary Russo.  He’s working on the new subway line that has been under construction since 2007.  The people in that neighborhood hate the construction and the noise and the inconvenience.  So Mr. Russo, tired of being hated, decided to do something to make people happy…he sings on his lunch break.  He’s got music and a mic and everything and he’s been out there every day for the past two weeks singing Frank Sinatra and Neil Diamond songs.  And he’s really good too!  I have no idea how to insert a video into a post…but here’s a link to a You Tube video.  It’s worth checking out.

I’m off to get some work done so I can get out of here early and soak up some vitamin D.  Have a great weekend!

  1. We have a car dealership here that has an annoyingly catchy jingle. Great – now I’m thinking about it!
Note to self: Do not scratch your ass on the street. I can still pick my nose in the car though, right? Surely nobody can see me doing that.
    Only in New York!
That guy was awesome – thanks for giving me a smile this morning.

  2. I love New York! That guy is great. I’m totally buying his album when it comes out. :)

    Here’s a little WordPress help:

You can sneakily insert a youtube video into a post with this little piece of code.

make sure the link doesn’t hyperlink automatically – and the quotes need to be there too.

    The more you know!

  3. BAH it took out my code.

okay I’ll put it in with spaces so it doesn’t take it out but there shouldn’t be any spaces:

No spaces. And make sure the link isn’t hyperlinked.

  4. Seriously?

Okay I’m emailing it to you.

  5. he sings Niel Diamond? I love him already. :)

  6. Awwww, I love that guy! What a cutie and nice way to make New Yorkers stop and smell the coffee :)

LMAO @ the woman scratching her ass. Seriously?!

Also, did you try embedding the code from YouTube? On the YT page for that particular video there’s a code for embedding which I tried once and I think you can just copy/paste that into your post to make it appear. Then again, I’m not what you might call tech savvy so I dunno if this is fool proof. Listen to Meaghan. LOL!
