Finally…

I woke up at 3AM for a middle of the night potty break and I noticed my phone was blinking with new messages.  I did a quick scan of my email and noticed someone had forwarded me a CNN breaking news bulletin.  I read it quickly and didn’t quite believe what I was reading.

Osama bin Laden is dead?

No way.  The friend that forwarded this email…she forwards a lot of jokes.  I scanned the entire email a bunch of times and it didn’t seem like a joke.  But I still didn’t believe it.  I checked another email and sure enough…the same information.  He was dead.

I got out of bed and switched the TV from the infomercial that was providing J the background noise he needs to sleep to CNN.

I saw people dancing in the streets.  People singing “God Bless America” at Ground Zero.  The president making the announcement in a late night news conference.

We were finally able to rid the world of some evil.

It was very nice news to wake up to indeed.

John Stamos (of all people) tweeted the following quote this morning…

“I’ve never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.” ~Mark Twain

I think that sums it up perfectly.

What do you all think?

  1. What a whirlwind weekend! I didn’t know about this until I read some facebook posts this morning!!!

    • Royal Wedding, Check
    • Got engaged myself this weekend, check!
    • Found Osama and dusted him, check!

After so much tragedy in the south from storms it’s nice to have positive things happen!!!

  2. I was minding my own business watching Celebrity Apprentice on my DVR when Twitter blew up with the news.
Its crazy – it was nice to see the impromptu celebrations popping up.
I saw that Mark Twain quote too, and thought it was just about perfect.

  3. I agree. It feels oddly strange to celebrate anyone’s death, but I was incredibly relieved once I heard this last night. I’ll feel better when our troops are home but I agree with Kelly above–for once, it’s nice to have some positive news again.

    And congratulations to her!!!

  4. I have mixed feelings about this.

I hope that Bin Laden’s death makes an impact on other terrorists, an impact that keeps them from action towards us.

I worry about retaliation and I worry about our troops.

I am glad our soldiers are out there keeping us safe and I thank God for the Navy Seals.

I just don’t feel like Osama’s death makes us that much safer.

Killing him was a necessary, but how many more terrorists will use this as a rally cry against Americans in general.

    that is all

  5. I am getting ready to post a guest post by Chad’s mom. There are many viewpoints but hers is unique. It is definitely something to be conflicted about. I keep following the coverage as best as I can but I have to agree with the other comments…it’s really hard to rejoice over the death of another human…but it’s nice that there is less evil in the world. It is still very surreal though. And OMG…what a freaking weekend!!
    xoxo
