Random Musings Friday…

When the alarm went off this morning I had no idea what day it was.  When I realized it was Friday I was thrilled.  I have a very long to-do list for this weekend, but even running errands and cleaning the house are better than going to work…mostly because I can nap in between.

So either nothing interesting happened this week or I just failed to write anything down.  I went to check my notes for today and I had nothing.  Please bear with me as I stumble my way through this week’s random musings…

  • Last weekend, J took all the potted plants from the backyard and moved them into the shed to try to keep them from freezing.  I thought he was nuts and declared it far too early in the season to do that.  This morning, I realized that it’s not too early…it’s COLD outside.  How did that happen?  How did it become October 22nd with me realizing it?  Why does time go so fast?  I pondered all of these questions as I walked the six blocks to work.  I also came to the conclusion that it’s time for tights and gloves and a hat.  I just added “take out winter accessories” and “buy tights” to my to-do list for tomorrow.
  • Speaking of time flying…today is payday and it totally snuck up on me.  I love when that happens.  There was a time where I would be counting change and eating cereal for dinner the last few days before a payday.  Now I don’t even have to keep track of when I get paid.  I mean…I keep track, but because I’ve done a great job of budgeting and I no longer run out of money the Wednesday before payday.  It’s so nice to finally feel like a financially responsible adult.  It only took until my mid-thirties for me to get here!
  • I got a Brazilian keratin straightening treatment done to my hair on Wednesday and I was instructed not to wash it for four days.  I’ve done this before and the results were amazing.  But last time I was home sick in bed for the four days after.  I didn’t care about being able to wash my hair.  This week…I’ve been at work and tomorrow night I’m supposed to go to a party.  It’s only day 2 and my hair is gross.  It looks…not horrible, I guess…but it feels gross.  I can’t wait to wash it on Sunday.  I’m counting the minutes until I have clean and gorgeous straightened hair.
  • I’m dressing up for Halloween this year for the first time in 20 years.  I decided early on what I wanted to be and how I wanted my costume to look.  Then I proceeded to try to find the thing that was in my head.  It’s been impossible.  Apparently, I’m the only one with this kind of vision.  It sort of makes me wish I’d learned to use my sewing machine before now.  So before all my errands tomorrow…I’m going on a mission to find the right kind of outfit that will make my costume work.  And yes…I’m purposely not telling you what it is.  There will be a big reveal on November 2nd.

Well, that’s all I could scrounge up for this week.  I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend.  See you Monday!

  1. Its a great feeling to get paid without needing it. More people should get to feel that experience!
I so want to get a brazillian blowout, but I am far too cheap to let myself indulge. I guess I’ll just stick to the Garnier Blow-dry perfector kit…not quite the same, but its only $15…

    • Paul Mitchell also makes a keratin treatement called Awapuhi Wild Orchid. I haven’t tried it yet, but someone in my office uses it and swears by it. They sell it on Amazon.

And seriously…indulge. It’s so worth it. After I did mine the first time I barely even had to style my hair. I just did a bit of blowdrying and I was good to go. Salons here were charging $400 when they first started doing it…which was insane. But the prices have come down to around $150 – $250. It lasted for almost 6 months.

  2. Man, I am SO HAPPY when I wake up and realize it’s Friday. Makes my day that much better knowing that non-work time is in my near future.

And I’m jealous that it’s cold where you are. In Texas, it’s still 80-something during the day. I can’t wait til it gets cold here, even though it’ll only last for about two minutes.

Have a great weekend… can’t wait to see the costume you’re putting together!

  3. Ahhh secrets kill me, then again who am I do say anything I’ve purposely not said what I was going to be. Although I’ve told two people and my friends here. I was worried that people might try to copy me then I realized I will probably be on of 1,000 people dressed like this in the great state of Alabama alone. That being said if yours is hard to find it means it’s AWESOME!!!! I can’t wait to see it!

I would love, love, love to get a hair straightening treatment but lately I’ve been doing loose curls so I doubt that would work.

Lastly I still wish I was able to come with you girls – while I know my fun night @ the local bar won’t compare to your adventure I know I will still have a good time, just not the epic time I would have had with you! In the future I will make up for this somehow!!!

    Have a great time!!!!! oxox

P.S. Can you wear your hair up for the party? Will it hurt the process to do that? If you can do an up do and wear a cute headband or something. I know how you feel. I usually can go 5 days max without shampooing… gross I know, but my hair isn’t that oily so when I straighten my hair (which takes forever) I tend to let it go as long as I can… on the last day I usually pull it up and sport a head band to cover my roots that tend to finally get greasy by then!

  4. Excited for your costume, Shan! But why oh why must you leave us hanging like this?

    Meanie. :)

  5. A bit behind the last few days so am just playing catch-up now. ALSO: my apron came in yesterday and it is SO STINKIN’ CUTE!!! I totally want to twirl around in it and wear it to tea parties. It’s adorable :)

I cannot believe the month of October is almost over. Where does the time go? My two new favorite words put together in a sentence are “unseasonably warm,” which is what’s going on out there and I love it. I did break out the tights, but I probably didn’t need to–I was breaking a sweat on my way into work this morning!

I’m sure your hair looks beautiful :) How long does that last anyway? I always considered having it done.

OMG, don’t leave me hanging!! What’s your Halloween costume?! Okay, fine… I can wait :) But I’m excited to see what you dress as!
