A sad birthday…

Today would have been my grandmother’s 81st birthday.  She never would have admitted to that number.  She would  have told everyone she was like 68.  She lied about her age all the time.  The problem was she also lied about my mom’s age and my age too.  Obviously, a 50 year old woman can’t have a 39 year old daughter and a 17 year old granddaughter.  So she always made us way younger than we were.  I went to visit her at work one day when I was 17 and someone she worked with was standing outside when I drove up.  She was more than slightly shocked to see me get out of the car.  My grandmother had told her I was 13!

She was a trip and I miss her every single day.   I wish she was here to celebrate her birthday today.

Happy Birthday Nanny!

  1. stopping by from SITS. Sorry about your grandmother, but I can see why she lied about her age. That is one good looking grandma. Sounds spunky too. Remembrance is often bittersweet. (((hugs)))

  2. Awww happy birthday to Nanny. She was lovely!

  3. Don’t you kind of wish she was around now to lie about your age? 😉 I could go for 23 again. Happy Birthday to Nanny! I was just thinking the other day about how much I missed my grandmother. We just don’t get enough time with them.

Yours is the only blog I’m reading tonight. Cold meds have kicked in. Focker, out! 😉

    • Awww…thanks man. I am so flattered that even though you are all drugged up you still took the time to come by. I hope the cold medicine is helping and that you are finally feeling better. I miss reading your blog.

Yes, I totally wish she was still around to make me younger. Hell…I don’t even need 23…at this point I’d take 29.

  4. She sounds like a trip. I love grandmothers like that, you know things won’t be boring with them around.

  5. Your Nanny was a knockout!!

She sounds like she was one helluva lady and funny, to boot! Happy Birthday to Nanny!

P.S. I love that you call her ‘Nanny’…that’s what I call my mom now b/c of the kids…and anyway, I call her ‘Nanny BaNanny’ a lot.
