That is what I feel like I’m doing today. I was home sick yesterday and I ended up laying around on the couch all day…I wasn’t sleeping, but I wasn’t moving either. Somehow, despite all that laying around, I also managed to pull my back, so I was in a fair amount of pain. When it came time to go to bed last night I wasn’t tired and had a hell of a time falling asleep. Shortly after I fell asleep, J, who is a night owl, decided to take a shower and, despite his best efforts not to, ended up waking me up. I fell asleep again, only to be woken up at 3 AM with horrible back pain. Nothing I did was helping it to feel any better. I sat up, laid on my back, tried to stretch, walked around a little, laid on my side, put a pillow under my legs, put an extra pillow under my head, got up again, stretched some more, laid down again. It was not fun.
After an hour of this I went downstairs to find J watching tv. He offered to rub my back, but touching it just made it hurt more. I don’t really like to take pain killers unless I absolutely have to, especially since they rarely work for my back anyway. But I was desperate and luckily, after 4 Advil, a muscle relaxer and an hour, the pain subsided enough for me to go to sleep…at 5 AM!
The really unfortunate part is that it’s tax season and work is insanely busy. For the months of March and April, I need to be in the office by 7 AM. Which means I have to be up by 5:30. When my alarm went off this morning I seriously debated staying in bed and calling in sick again. But there is so much work and I’m already a day behind. I didn’t think it was wise to let it get worse. So I dragged myself out of bed, got dressed and boarded my bus before the sun came up. Now I’m sitting at my desk, trying to keep my eyelids open and cheerfully answering emails from yesterday. I’m such a dedicated employee…I think I deserve a raise.
One upside to this is that my exhaustion is making this peanut butter and jelly bagel I’m eating taste so good. If I was properly rested and wide awake, it wouldn’t taste this good.
I’m off to do some 1099 reconciliations now and I’m going to start the countdown of minutes until I can go home and back to sleep. I hope everyone is having a happy Friday!
